Castanets

Lettustanets (レタスタネット, Retasutanetto) are the weapons used by Mew Lettuce (Bridget) in both Tokyo Mew Mew anime series and manga.

Appearance[]

Lettuce Castanets - Manga

The Lettustanets in the 1st Manga series.

The Lettustanets are two flamenco castanets. They have a dark and light green pattern with gold trim. There is a ribbon tied to the top of each castanet. They both have a a golden bow design in the middle with a heart. The heart on the left castanet has Ichigo's Mew Mark in the middle while the right one has Lettuce's Mew Mark.

In the manga, Lettuce's weapon looks more spherical, with no ribbons and no golden bows. They still have the two green patterns and the hearts in the middle with the Mew Marks. In à la Mode, they get changed to the anime version's design.

Name Changes (Manga)[]

Due to the pun in Mew Lettuce's weapon name, all 3 English manga translations had their own take on how they thought the name should be translated, with varying degrees of success. TokyoPop and Chuang Yi did a straight translation but as two words, while the Kodansha version translated its original intention without the pun. In Tokyo Mew Mew 2020 Re-Turn the Lettustanets were given a 2nd attack.

Name Changes (Anime)[]

Due the confusion in the pun, most uncut dubs, use "Lettuce Castanets", which is the original intent without the pun. Other dubs use the 4Kids English dubbed name. However, there are some dubs that come up with their own weapon and attack names.
